My name is Nasir Mohamed and since 2017, I have worked in the housing industry to advance minority homeownership in north Minneapolis communities. In 2020, my team and I successfully rehabbed a house from top to bottom on James Avenue North. The project was a huge success, and the home was purchased by a minority family of seven who qualified for 80% AMI.
This endeavor led to the birth of MHDC, which aims to provide affordable housing at 80% AMI through traditional homeownership, townhouses, and condominiums to diversify communities across Minneapolis, thereby fulfilling the dream of homeownership for low-income families. It closes the homeownership gap and empowers underserved Minneapolis citizens through education programs about purchasing their first home. The nonprofit is governed by a board of directors, of which the majority are also low-income families residing in public housing.
